MAKING COMMITTEES WORK IN GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATIONS

Grassroots organizations sometimes have strong boards, but weak committees.  Volunteers refuse to chair committees because they fear doing all the work alone.  Why do committees fail?  They lack long-term agendas, members are unsure of their duties and the time it will take, there is reliance on poor or incomplete information, and the failure to distinguish between board level and operational issues.  Here is a brief but good outline of how to be an effective committee chair.  Spread it around the organization. Effective Committees
