         Volunteer Today has been running a series on working with advisory groups.  (See the Boards and Committees page).  A good resource on organizing and managing committees of any type is the book Building Effective Volunteer Committees by Nancy Macduff.  In 10 chapters the author covers everything from roles and responsibilities to motivation and staff responsibilities.  This workbook includes forms, samples of those forms as they should be filled out, and loads of examples of all that is recommended. 
         You can learn to create descriptions for committees and how to select the right people for the committee to get the desired work done.  The chapter on recognition covers formal and informal recognition.
