         Governance boards need to periodically check their “legal” house.  There is a link to a pdf file , Nonprofit Legal Self-Assessment Checklist recently released by the Washington State Attorneys Assisting Community Organizations (WAACO).  The checklist is a guide for helping nonprofits to understand common legal obligations and to highlight areas where greater inquiry should be made.  While aimed primarily at WA nonprofits it is an excellent overview of what boards need to look for in a legal audit.  Certainly worth sharing with those who want to make sure things are in order.
