YOUR BOARD IS NOT HELPING WITH FUND RAISING ??????

water over a globeAccording to BoardSource volunteers serving on governing boards are falling short in the fund raising area.  A survey of 1300 chief executives showed that 40% said that board members are reluctant to seek money, relying on staff to carry out fund raising efforts.  Here are some tips to turn it around.

  • When you recruit board member state clearly the expectation of raising revenues.
  • Create a structure for board member participation in fundraising
  • Get commitments to fund raise with names, dates, and activities
  • Offer a variety of ways to raise funds; donations, ask others; contact businesses; contact foundations; write grants; identify possible donors, chair a fund raising event.

Not everyone on a board has to be rich, but everyone can help.

Teach the board the fundraising message or slogan.  Create an informational packet.  Put it online with PDF forms to download.
