WHAT IS A VOLUNTEER HOUR WORTH?

TrueImpact

A perennial question in volunteer administration is how much all those volunteer hours are worth.  Independent Sector has historically used the average wage in the US (this is also done in Canada) as determined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).  Currently that amount is $21.79.  Multiple the hours of volunteer service by that number and you have the value of donated time.  hourglass

But, is the time of the computer program expert who upgrades your system the same as someone who greets clients at the front desk?  There is a resource for managers of volunteers that provides more discrete wage rates, including breakdowns by state and region.  True Impact provides web-based tools and consulting support to help organizations measure the social, financial, and environmental return on investment (ROI) of their programs and operations.  One of them relates to hourly wage rates.
