| BOARDS AND COMMITTEES
They are volunteers, too!
WHY DO BOARDS HAVE PROBLEMS?
Like most people there is scant time to read a book on how to diagnose and fix the problems of the board of directors at a nonprofit. But, problems there are many.
In Governance as Leadership: Reframing the Work of Nonprofit Boards, Harvard professor Richard Chait, along with co-authors William Ryan and Barbara Taylor, argue that boards spend too much time on minutia and management issues, and not enough time on big-picture strategy and leadership concerns.
Manada Salls interview with Richard Chait outlines the conclusions of the book and provides insightful commentary on what makes for good boards and how to fix problems.
