VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT: PRACTICES AND RETENTION OF VOLUNTEERS In 2004 the UPS and the Urban Institute were the catalysts bringing major volunteer administration stakeholder groups together to study volunteer management, with an eye to determining what practices of an organization led to volunteer retention. The partners, the Corporation for National and Community Service and Volunteering, the Points of Light Foundation, and the Association for Volunteer Administration assisted in research on how successful organizations engage volunteers in ways that lead to retention. This report should be read by anyone who manages volunteers and by administrators of organizations or agencies where volunteers are in the work pool.
