Becoming a Board Member

BECOMING A BOARD MEMBER

Becoming a member of a nonprofit board is a decision not to be made lightly. Individuals should consider such things as commitment to the mission, knowledge of fiscal responsibility, personal protection while serving, and the skills and abilities of the staff. Assessment of the situation before signing on as a Board member is important for potential members. Wealth magazine in the Spring 2007 ran an article on making the decision to serve on a nonprofit board. This is an article you might want to share with those who are being considered for membership on your board. Click here for PDF of the article.
