Editing Wikipedia on Volunteer Management

Our occasional columnist, Jayne Cravens sent an email recently lamenting the quality of the entries around volunteering that exist on Wikipedia.  She suggested that many people start their researching on a topic at Wikipedia and use the references from that site to dig deeper into a topic.  Her review of the volunteer sites located the following global topics:  Nonprofit, Volunteering, Virtual Volunteering, Voluntary Sector, Grassroots, and Nonprofit Technology.  Notably absent is anything on managing or engaging volunteers.  Her call was for people who are knowledgeable to consider adding to the current information.
The editor of this newsletter would like to create a Wikipedia page on Managing or Engaging Volunteers.  Help is needed.  Anyone who knows the ins and outs of posting on Wikipedia is asked to contact Nancy Macduff at mba@bmi.net.  I would urge readers to suggest topics that make sense on such a page.  Same address as above.

German Language Online Group for Virtual Volunteering

A new German language site for  those interested in online volunteering has been set up.  The site uses the Internet and is dedicated to discussing the recruitment, management, and support of virtual volunteers.  Address:  http://groups.google/group/online-volunteering.  Remember—it is in German.
