~August 2009~

“. . .a body of persons appointed for a specific function, usually out of a larger body”(Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus)

“ a body that keeps minutes and wastes hours” http://www.jimwegryn.com/Words/Daffynitions.htm

"A committee is best composed of three people, with one who is always sick and another who is always absent."http://www.associationinnovation.com/thedailyinnovator/2005/09/committee_humor.html

"A committee is composed of people who individually can do nothing, who come together to conclude that nothing can be done." http://www.associationinnovation.com/thedailyinnovator/2005/09/committee_humor.html

"a person or group of persons elected or appointed to perform some service or function, as to investigate, report on, or act upon a particular matter." http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/committee

The definition of committee ranges from the function to the inspirational, with a good share of humor, too.  Anyone who works with a committee wonders what is the magic to keep the committee on track.  Here is a checklist to assess the way the committee is managed.  This assessment might help get them back on track or improve the work of the group.
